Welcome to the Munitions Cryofracture Demilitarization
Facility (MCDF) located at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant (MCAAP) in
The primary mission of the MCDF is to demilitarize (destroy) Area Denial Artillery Munition (ADAM) anti-personnel landmines by use of the cryofracture process. The process equipment to perform this work was designed, procured, assembled, and installed by General Atomics. The system uses a front-end download work cell to download the ADAM mines from 155mm projectiles referred to as the Projectiles Download Work Cell (PDWC). Both the PDWC and the cryofracture process are undergoing integrated system tests with the goal of processing ADAM QA and ADAM AP mines by June 2009.
1) Pictures -- This site is grouped into the
following areas :
a) Site – The latest pictures of the MCDF building
b) PDWC – The latest pictures of the Projectile Download Work Cell (PDWC). This equipment will remove the ADAM mines from the projectiles (download) and feed them to the cryofracture process.
c) Cryofracture – The latest pictures of the cryofracture equipment. This equipment will transport the ADAM mines into a cryobath, cool them down, and then feed them into a press where they are fractured and the energetics are accessed for thermal destruction.
d) Debris Process – The latest pictures of the Debris Processing Equipment. This equipment will transport the ADAM mine debris (those that do not contain any energetics) to a drum and packaging system.
e) RKS Feed – The latest pictures of the Rotary Kiln System (RKS) Feed equipment. This equipment will take the energetics from the press and transport them into the APE-1236 RKS for incineration.
f) Control System – The most recent pictures of the control system and the control room.
g) Utilities – The latest pictures of the Balance of Plant Utilities (BOP) required by the MCDF.
h) The TVT icon consists of pictures and information about the Tooling Verification Testing to support improved Overlay/Kill Mechanism Accessing.
i) And finally, certainly not least, is the staff that is making the MCDF a reality at the MCAAP site. About identifies these brave and hard working people!
