CONTROL SYSTEM

The control system for the MCDF is the most critical component of the integrated process.  This system, called the Integrated Process Control System (IPCS), consists of the control room, graphics displays, software, local controllers, and Hardwired Protection System (HWPS) for autonomous and remote integrated process operations.

The IPCS comprises five distinct areas:

a)      Control Room – This area contains the graphic displays, printers, and CCTV displays for the operators.

Cryofracture Workstation Display                 Debris Processing Workstation Display

RKS Feed Workstation Display                 APE-1236 RKS/APCS Remote Display

HWPS Workstation Display                          Process Control Network Monitor

BOP Workstation Display                           PDWC Workstation Display

b)      PDWC Control – This area (located in the mezzanine) contains the control system equipment for PDWC automatic operations.

c)      Primary Control – This area (located in the Electrical Room) contains the equipment required to operate the cryofracture plant.  In addition, the Ethernet network originates from this room and connects all of the instruments, graphic displays, and remote controls as one seamless system.

OPTO-22 Control and I/O Modules              Intrinsic Barriers for Explosion Proof Classification

d)      RKS Control – The RKS/APCS system must be operated from the control room or, if operated in local mode, from the RKS/APCS local control panel.  To operate remotely from the control room, the RKS/ACPS control system is interfaced through an RKS/APCS remote control unit, which accesses the Ethernet network.

e)      HWPS – The Hard Wired Protection System (HWPS) consists of emergency stops (E-Stops) for instant plant shutdown.

And the supporting hardwired components (no software or controllers) for emergency plant shutdown

f)       CCTV – The CCTV system consists of cameras (10) located in the facility and monitors in the control room

CCTV Robot & Press                             CCTV SEAS Feeder & PFS for RKS

Drum and Packaging System                           Munition Unpack & Load Area

g)      Vision System – The Vision System is used to automatically confirm that specific operations with the cryofracture process have correctly occurred.

Automatic inspection of cryofacture tooling for debris           Automatic inspection of shuttle box for debris

h)      Lights and Horns – Alert MCDF staff of plant startup and equipment operation.
